Medicine Hat Youth Action Society seeks to improve the physical, social, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural reality of youth in Medicine Hat and surrounding area.
Target Statement
Medicine Hat Youth Action Society seeks to involve youth from ages 11 to 17 year in active process with the larger community.
Belief Statement
All youth, regardless of race, gender, religion, creed or socio-economic status, have important issues that impact their quality of life.
Youth need to identify their own issues and be active participants in resolving these issues.
Youth need to have a voice in there own issues and be active participants in resolving these issues.
Youth need to have a voice in their community and need to be treated with respect and equality.
The MHYAS is a non-profit society (incorporated in May of 1997) that provides social and recreational opportunities for youth in Medicine Hat and area. We are a registered charity and welcome donations - please contact us for more information 403-528-8068

Youth Wellness Coordinator The position evolved from a group of youth focused individuals that saw the need to co-ordinate and unite youth initiatives throughout the Palliser region. The Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operation of the Youth Wellness Centre, staff supervision and is available to help and support youth, families, agencies, and the community. If you are, or you know a youth, who needs support, you can call the Youth Wellness Coordinator, Laurel Wood. Information will be provided to you to connect you to the services you need.
Resiliency Facilitator The Facilitator connects with individuals, agencies, committees, schools and programs in Southeastern Alberta in an effort to encourage resiliency for people of all ages. Working for the MHYAS, and in partnership with Southeast Alberta Child and Family Services, Regional School Districts, Alberta Health Services - Addictions and Mental Health - Community, the Resiliency Facilitator provides consultations, presentations, supportive education groups and direct services to youth, family members, teachers, and community agencies that are involved with supporting a youth through addictions and prevention of sexual exploitation. If you are a parent, school staff, or youth who is need of support, or know of a youth who needs support , please contact the Resiliency Facilitator.
Resiliency Outreach Worker The Youth and Family Outreach Program partnered with Community Mental Health is one- on- one youth mentoring program. This program which works towards developing and maintaining opportunities for “at risk” youth to build healthy peer relationships and build strong life skills through matching staff with refereed clients to deal with specific youth issues. In this role Staff act as positive role models and mentors while giving the youth the opportunity to participate in affordable healthy recreational activities. More specifically youth are exposed to:
- Positive peer interaction and relationship building with peers, adults, and members of the general community
- Self esteem building
- Building tolerance
- Age appropriate behaviors
- Independence
- Responsibility
- Appropriate social skills
