Dream Team Biography

Linsay Willier originally from Sucker Creek First Nation, moved to Edmonton at age 18 to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care Counselling at Grant McEwen College. In 2008, she submitted an application to be on “Canada’s Next Top Model” and was chosen from 14,000 other hopefuls as one of the 11 finalists all competing for a high profile modeling contract. Linsay is now recognized as the most popular First Nations model to appear on a “Canada’s Next Top Model”. She was awarded runner up prize. Linsay now focuses a majority of her time on delivering workshops to youth across the country with her partner James Jones. Linsay is also currently running for Miss Universe Canada.

James Jones originally from the Tall Cree First Nation is a hip hop/cultural dancer who has taught, performed and travelled all across North America, Europe and Australia. James has been blessed to dance with such artists as Genuine, In Essence, Maestro Fresh Wes, and Snoop Dogg. James was also featured in 2009 on the hit show, “So You Think You Can Dance Canada”. James made history as the first Aboriginal street dancer to head straight into the finals. James also danced in his cultural regalia in the opening ceremonies at the Olympics.

Dear Youth Friendly Service Provider,

The Medicine Hat Youth Action Society and Miywasin Society of Aboriginal Services would like to invite the youth you work with, to join us in celebrating International Youth Day 2011. We believe that their attendance is significant! We are giving youth an opportunity to learn new life skills and have some fun!

The event will take place on August 12, 2011 at The Esplanade. It will start at 10:00 am and be completed by 4:00 pm. The celebration of this day will be marked by great food, friendships, body art and stars two First Nations Canadian Celebrities who will be providing interactive life skills workshop to empower youth.

This main event will consist of interactive workshops hosted by the famous Canada’s Next Top Model finalist Linsay Willier and So Youth Think You Can Dance Canada finalist James Jones. The purpose of the workshops will be to empower youth by sharing their life stories and speaking about what it takes to accomplish your goals and dreams while living a healthy life style. Workshops will include: Goal Setting, Self-Confidence building, Bullying and exciting beauty tips, Fashion Show Walk off and Hip-Hop 101. Our main goal is to provide youth with the opportunity for interactive awareness and to build positive self images and enhance everyday life. Youth action, inclusion, and their full participation are key to developing today’s world for the generations of today and tomorrow and central to a sustainable existence.
